Curriculum Statement of Intent

In line with Oasis’ Education Charter, the curriculum at Oasis Academy Broadoak is at the heart of our educational provision. Through this, and our commitment to an exceptional climate for learning and pedagogy, we make great learning the foundation of every lesson across all phases of our academy. We have designed our curriculum to be progressive from EYFS to Year 6 and to meet the needs of all learners, striving for personal as well as academic excellence. Through our curriculum, we will achieve exemplary outcomes for all that drive social mobility and give everyone freedom of choice through their lives.

At Oasis Academy Broadoak, we are committed to inclusive practice. We ensure equality, meaning that all learners, whatever their background, starting point and life experience, develop effective learning behaviours and the character to be successful. We are committed to the academic and personal development of all children and are ambitious for all learners including the most vulnerable and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Children are supported to overcome barriers to learning so that there are no limits to the achievement and ambition of all. We strive to bring advantage to the disadvantaged through a knowledge-rich, spiral curriculum that embeds in children’s long term memory. We ensure that our curriculum is stimulating, broad, balanced and brought to life so children feel immersed and invested in their learning.

Developing character and learning behaviours are a foundation stone to the design and delivery of our holistic curriculum. We know that this must be explicitly taught through the Oasis 9 Habits, being the best version of ourselves, and by cultivating the habits and attitudes of curious, confident learners through Building Learning Power.  British values are promoted across the curriculum, through assemblies, the pupil leadership team and our school council as well as how we behave on a daily basis. Through clear SMSC teaching, which is embedded in the curriculum, pupils and staff work together to prevent discriminatory behaviour.

At Oasis Academy Broadoak, our bespoke curriculum has been designed with our community and children in mind. The progressive and spiral nature of our curriculum develops knowledge of our local context and the heritage of our country. Our children will learn the knowledge and skills to be successful in a variety of contexts in the wider world they live in.

Reading is at the heart of the children’s learning. Delivered through high-quality texts, it will enable them to foster a love of reading and immerse our children in a scholarly environment. We will explicitly teach vocabulary in order to ensure that our children develop the language that they need to be successful and articulate in any context.

We are passionate about providing learners with a range a quality and varied activities that enhance the curriculum and further develop their skills, talents and interests. Learning doesn’t end in the classroom and all children are given the opportunity to add depth and breadth to their life experiences. Our ‘101 things to do before you’re 11 ’ encapsulates just some of the experiences we aim to provide our children during their time at Broadoak.  We are also proud of the range of extra-curricular activities we provide and the variety of sports that our children compete in.

We believe these aims will develop us spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, therefore helping to prepare us for the next challenges and opportunities in life. We want the children to be proud of our community, our school, our achievements and our peers and recognise that by working together, we can achieve more than we could on our own.
